High School Volunteers
They left the park and, on the way to a store, they only talked about the park. They were absorbed in talking about playing they would like to do, toys and things they would like to have, and so on. Soon after, they found a bunch of people, who looked like high school students, picking up trash with garbage bags in their hands. They were high school volunteers, Chii knew.
"Hello. Are you doing volunteer activities today?"' Chii called out cheerfully.
"Hi, Chii. Long time no see. You're looking fine. Today, I thought about cleaning up the town and asked around in my school. Not only a volunteer group but also other students volunteered to do the work with me. Look at the number of students I gathered. It is said that the half of trash littered around the town is done by high school students. We are not doing this to compensate for it, but, look at the number of students and the amount of garbage we collected."
Bags that were held out were packed with many kinds of things. Chii felt that she could not forgive people who littered without concern, and furthermore she always felt annoyed by adults who dropped cigarettes on the street.
She had decided not to be a person who littered the streets.
"Hey. Let's move on!"
The leader shouted and the group of high school students started crossing the street.
"Good bye, kid. Take good care of Chii."
This was the third time somebody called Taku kid. Taku smiled and waved strongly to the high school boys and girls as if to say that they did not have to worry and he would take care of Chii.
"You know a lot of people, Chii."
"I do volunteer work too, you know. That's why I've made lots of friends around town. It is fun to know lots of people."
