CHII & TAKU The Playground at the park Page 4
"Let's go to the pond!" It was as if this park was a garden at Chii's house. They arrived at the pond before long. A water tap was about waist height and water was flowing into the shallow pond. Taku blinked his eyes again in disbelief. Chii was getting into the pond with the wheelchair! Scooping up the flowing water with her hands and splashing herself with it, Chii was absorbed in playing. It was a pond where everybody could get in and play. A pond devised for people in wheelchairs where they could get in the flowing water without getting out of their wheelchairs. How wonderful! Taku put his hand in the water, too. The cold water felt good. "This is a very pleasant park. There is no trash on the ground. So everybody wanted to come back and play here again because of this pleasant feeling." "That is one of the good things about this park," Chii told him a little proudly. "Don't be snobby like that. This is not your park." He pretended to be angry and turned his head away. "If you think this park is yours, you can't help but use it with care. Don't you think so?" Chii asked Taku. "You are right. I want to use a park like this carefully, too. This is a place where you can be friendly because everybody was so kind, helped us immediately, and played with us." Nakayoshi ParkNakayoshi Park is modeled after "Fujino Mukudori Park" in Fujino Minami ward, Sapporo. "Fujino Mukudori Park" was designed for fathers, mothers, children, and the handicapped to enjoy playing together. People have been using it with care since completion of the park.* Nakayoshi means good friends |
